Scouting for Food
is a way to teach young scouts "to HELP other people" at all times.
They go door to door through their neighborhood wearing their
uniforms and collect food for the hungry. Adult Leaders and Parent
volunteers supervise the collection process, but the boys do the
work. This is an opportunity for boys to learn that not everyone is
fortunate enough to have good food all the time. It is also a
valuable opportunity for them to experience the generosity of their
neighbors who donate food, and from that to learn that what they are
doing is important.
Scouting for Food is an
annual event held during the month of October. Our scouts leave
plastic bags at houses during a designated week asking citizens to
fill the bags with non-perishable food items. We then return on
Saturday morning of the same week and collect bags filled with food
which have been left outside by citizens. All food collected is
donated to the Goddard Lions Club Food Pantry to assist less
fortunate families in the Goddard area during the holiday season.
