The annual Pack rocket launch is one of the most
anticipated events for the boys. It is their opportunity to build
something to reach the stars.
Pack 2008 Scouts have picked up some very good habits from
rocketry; setting goals, planning, following directions, working
together, teamwork, and keeping records. They have also felt
satisfaction: imagine the look on a 6 to a Scouts' face as their
rocket that was designed, built and launched all on their own roared
off the pad for a perfect flight. As it drifted down on its
streamers, everyone was cheering and congratulating them. It is one
of the proudest moments in their life. Moreover, they have learned
how to deal with the minor tragedies of life when things may not go
as planned; say when a rocket is lost, gets dinged or when a
parachute does not deploy. Flying rockets teaches about science too.
You will see practical demonstrations of aerodynamics, physics,
chemistry and more. The Scouts become engineers, meteorologists,
photographers and journalists.
